Harassment Policy

Cincy Discord is dedicated to providing a harassment-free experience for everyone.

We want this to be a fun, pleasant, and harassment-free experience for everyone, regardless of gender, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, or religion. We do not tolerate harassment of participants in any form. Participants asked to stop any harassing behavior are expected to comply immediately.

Harassment is generally defined as a repeated pattern of behavior intended to scare, harm, anger, or shame a targeted individual. Disagreements happen and are normal, but making continuous, repetitive, or severe negative comments or circumventing a block or ban can cross the line into harassment and is not okay.

Harassment may include, but is not limited to:

  • Violence, threats of violence or violent language directed against another person or people, including encouraging a person to engage in self-harm
  • Posting or displaying sexually explicit or violent material
  • Sexist, racist, homophobic, transphobic, ableist or otherwise (including neuro(a)typicality, physical appearance, body size, age, religion, etc.) discriminatory jokes, language or imagery
  • Unwelcome comments regarding a person’s lifestyle choices and practices, including those related to food, health, parenting, drugs, and employment
  • Deliberate misgendering or use of “dead” or rejected names
  • Deliberate “outing” of any aspect of a person’s identity without their consent except as necessary to protect vulnerable people from intentional abuse
  • Posting/publishing or threatening to post/publish other people’s personally identifying information (“doxing”) whether physical or electronic
  • Personal or political attacks (including insulting or derogatory comments); particularly those related to gender, sexual orientation, race, religion, or disability
  • The use of sexualized language or imagery and unwelcome sexual attention or advances; this includes sexualized comments or jokes
  • Deliberate intimidation, stalking or following (online or in person)
  • Sustained disruption of discussion
  • Continued communication after requests to stop
  • Trolling: disrupting the chat, making a nuisance out of yourself, deliberately making others uncomfortable, or otherwise attempting to start trouble
  • Advocating for, or encouraging, any of the above behavior

This list is not exhaustive.

Conflict Resolution

If a member is involved in a conflict on the server, the moderators may choose to attempt a mediation process in order to resolve the issue. If the member refuses to cooperate, the moderation team reserves the right to remove them from the server.

If a member of the server has an unresolved issue with another member that needs to be addressed, please let the moderators know so that we can try to help mediate the situation.  Do not campaign against or vilify the other person in any of the channels on the server, especially channels that the other person hasn’t joined and where they are unable to view the conversation.  If mediation attempts by the mods fail, consider muting or ignoring the other person. For sincere inquiries related to receiving advice regarding other users, removing identifying information should be sufficient, unless the person’s identity is still obvious. If this is not possible, check in with the mods.

Unsolicited Contact

Sending random people unsolicited friend requests or attempting to start a conversation through DMs is not allowed. If you want to talk to someone privately, ask for permission on the server first.

If you receive a random DM from someone on the server and get ‘creeper’ vibes, please screenshot the conversation and send it to the mod team, even if the conversation is innocuous.

Consider that the person is not only creeping on you, but likely many others on the server.

After we receive multiple reports about someone, we will remove them from the server.

Keep in mind, all of the Cincy Discord server rules apply to DM conversations, so we could potentially remove someone after one report, depending on the content of a direct message.

Additionally, if a member were to report someone to the mods for sending an unwanted, unsolicited random DM, the creeper will not be notified who reported them and the person who reported them will remain anonymous.

Lastly, if anyone is receiving unwanted attention directly on the server, via private messages or at a meetup, if you were to clearly and directly let the other person know to stop and they continue to contact you, that would be considered harassment and grounds for removal from the server. Be sure to document as much as possible with screenshots and remember that people can edit and delete messages.

Witch Hunts

No witch hunts.

A witch-hunt is a thread or comment that damages or threatens to damage a specific person or entity’s reputation or resources without solid evidence. These often take the form of personal threats or attacks and calls to action.  Please be conscious of the content of your message and if your post includes someone’s personally identifying information. If you feel like someone is breaking the rules on the server, let the Cincy Discord moderation team know instead of starting a witch hunt.

Any of our members that are on other servers that are engaged in witch hunts will be removed from our server.  This may seem extreme/harsh, but it would be too difficult to figure out who all is involved and to what degree.  We want to be clear that everyone is absolutely welcome to join any server they would like, however, if you’re on another server that is participating in this kind of behavior, it is suggested that you either report it to our moderation team or leave that server.

Illegal Content

Do not organize, promote, or engage in any illegal behavior, such as the buying, selling, or trading of dangerous and regulated goods. Dangerous goods have reasonable potential to cause real-world, physical harm to individuals. Regulated goods have laws in place that restrict the purchase, sale, trade, or ownership of the goods.

Discord’s definition of “dangerous and regulated goods” includes: real firearms, ammunition, explosives, military-grade tactical gear, controlled substances, marijuana, tobacco, and alcohol.

More info here:  https://discord.com/blog/clarifying-our-dangerous-and-regulated-goods-policy

Do not share content that violates anyone’s intellectual property or other rights.

Cincy Discord does not allow any sharing of copyrighted material or links to pirated content on this server.

This includes but is not limited to: sharing files, asking for links or sources, or discussing methods for obtaining copyrighted material illegally.

Anyone found breaking this rule will be subject to severe consequences, including the possibility of being immediately removed from the server.

Suggestions

Any suggestions, comments and complaints are absolutely welcome and help the server become a better place.  As long as it’s constructive, we ask everyone to use the suggestions channel.  This is not intended to be a place for venting a string of criticisms or launching a personal attack against someone intending to discredit, demean or humiliate.

For a private conversation with the Admin team, please use the request a chat with the admins support ticket function.

At the end of the day, decisions are left to the Admin team and being rude or trolling because you disagree will result in corrective action.  Additionally, the mods sometimes make mistakes and may not handle things perfectly at times.

Questions regarding a moderation action or behavior must be asked by using the ‘Request a Chat with the Admins’ support ticket and we will do our best to clarify or provide advice and assistance. A mod not involved in the action will evaluate and take appropriate action (correction, explanation, or additional review).

Ban Appeals

A person who is banned may appeal the decision by opening a ticket on our Ban Appeal server.

Appealing does not guarantee an unban.

Please wait at least 3 months from the time you were banned before opening a ticket to appeal.

We do not respond to anyone directly in this server unless it is via the ticketing system.
